Vanessa Simmons & Rob Kardashian: An Item?

By Brennan Williams on Mar 15th 2010 4:49PM
While celebrating his 22nd birthday over the weekend in Las Vegas, reality star Robert Kardashian had wedding bells on his mind.
The younger sibling of the Kardashian sisters professed to People that he will be the next family member to tie the knot.
"I guarantee you it will be me," he revealed, adding, "I do not have a girlfriend, I'm not with no lady."
So he says.
Various sources are insinuating that Kardashian, who previously was formally committed to television personality Adrienne Bailon, is currently linked to another television star, Vanessa Simmons. Simmons was among the many guests in attendance at Las Vegas hot spot Jet Nightclub to help the 22-year-old celebrate his big day.
Though the two stars spoke sporadically during the party, they managed to spend plenty of time during Kardashian's birthday dinner at Mirage's Stack where they were spotted sitting next to one another.

Jamie Foxx: Calls Gabourey Sidibe "The Notorious Precious"

By Brennan Williams on Mar 16th 2010 4:04PM
Filed under: Television, News, Celeb Updates
With Oscar Award season behind her, Gabourey Sidibe is still making headlines.
All the buzz seems to be about her weight, though.
It seems that everyone has been is weighing in on the 'Precious' star's weight and health, causing a whirlwind of comments debating whether or not the topic is hurtful or helpful.
Last week shock jock radio personality Howard Stern cautioned Sidibe to seek help immediately before she encounters future fatal health issues.
Some took offense to Stern's brash comments including the actress' mother, Alice Tan Ridley, who told him to "get a life."
And then a weight loss company -- Acai Supply -- has approached the 26-year-old to provide her with a year's worth of their product.
However, Jamie Foxx had a rather unique perspective on the topic. "I hear they're doing the remake [to 'Precious'], it's called The Notorious Precious," the comedian, singer and radio personality joked during a recent appearance on Foxx's Sirius XM radio show 'The Foxxhole.' "Where Gabby does Biggie Smalls with Precious..."
Biggie Smalls, the rapper born Christopher Wallace who also went by the official moniker The Notorious B.I.G., was fatally shot in 1997 following a Los Angeles party. Before his untimely death, the hip hop legend -- discovered by Sean "Diddy" Combs and romantically linked to Lil Kim -- was known to glamorize his oversized stature.
The Academy Award winning star of 'Ray' continued impersonating the roles of Mo'Nique and Sidibe's characters from the Lee Daniels-directed drama, adding Notorious Precious would be produced by Tyler Perry.
While speaking in the tone of "Precious" he continued, "I don't know why you're coming at me like this. I'm trying...I'm trying to live, because...it was all a dream, I use to read Word Up magazine, Salt-N-Pepa..."

Judge: Winfrey must defend ex-headmistress's suit

By MARYCLAIRE DALE, Associated Press Writer Maryclaire Dale, Associated Press Writer – 36 mins ago
PHILADELPHIA – Talk show host Oprah Winfrey must defend a defamation suit over remarks she made about a headmistress at her girls' school in South Africa after a sex-abuse scandal erupted there, a U.S. judge ruled.
The case is now set for trial on March 29 in Philadelphia.
Judge Eduardo Robreno refused to dismiss the suit in a decision Monday, ruling that former headmistress Nomvuyo Mzamane has enough evidence to pursue her defamation claims against the media mogul. Winfrey made the remarks in 2007 after the complaints surfaced at the $40 million Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, near Johannesburg.
A dorm matron who worked under Mzamane was later charged with abusing six students.
Mzamane accused Winfrey of suggesting she was not trustworthy through comments about the need for new leadership and remarks such as "I thought she cared about the girls of South Africa," according to the October 2008 lawsuit.
Winfrey's lawyers argued the remarks, made at an Oct. 20, 2007 meeting with parents and at a Nov. 5, 2007 press conference, reflected Winfrey's opinions.
But the judge agreed they were potentially defamatory.
"The implication that (Mzamane) was aware of abuse by the dorm parents and did not react accordingly is capable of defamatory meaning as it ascribes conduct which would render her unfit for her profession as an educator," Robreno wrote in the 128-page opinion.
Winfrey's lawyer, William Hangley, declined comment Tuesday on the judge's decision.
Mzamane's lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment.
Mzamane, a native of Lesotho, previously held a leadership post at the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and returned to the area after her contract was not renewed at Winfrey's school. Mzamane has said she was unable to find work because of Winfrey's comments.

Jay-Z Helps Break Ground For Barclays Center In Brooklyn...Future Home Of NJ Nets

Video After Jump
NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's been a bitter turf war pitting residents and businesses against the Atlantic Yards developer, but Brooklyn's new arena is finally breaking ground.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Governor David Paterson, Jay-Z and business leaders will take part in a groundbreaking today for the Barclays Center at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn.
The 18,000-seat arena for the Nets has been held off for years by legal challenges and money problems. The project was originally proposed back in 2003.
The first-stage of the project is also set to include three residential buildings -- but they haven't been designed yet.
Opponents of the project plan to stage a protest rally nearby.
The arena is in a dream location the Brooklyn Dodgers never had.
"This should've happened four years ago. Now's the time to get the construction started, get the affordable housing built, let's get the jobs created and go Brooklyn Nets," Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz said.
The full project, all 16 apartment and office towers could take the next quarter-century to complete. But families and businesses in the area could get kicked out of the area now.
Gov. Paterson last week warned they had just 30 days to leave.
State officials will move to evict 22 families and companies if they don't leave voluntarily, by April 3rd.
The neighborhood has already seen a lot of work with buildings in the area demolished. And as of December 2009, the Long Island Railroad has a brand new rail yard for its trains.
When it opens, the Barclays Center will host more than 200 events annually -- pro and college sports, concerts and of course Nets basketball.
The Nets currently play in the Meadowlands at the Izod Center in New Jersey.
For the next two seasons, they'll be playing at The Rock in the Prudential Center in Newark.
A-Rod: Lawyers are setting up interview with feds
By HOWIE RUMBERG | ||||||||||||||||||||
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Alex Rodriguez may soon be talking to federal authorities, and he hopes it will happen close to spring training. Lawyers for the Yankees slugger are setting up an interview as part of an investigation into a Canadian doctor who is the focus of a cross-border drug smuggling case involving human growth hormone. Rodriguez said the site is under discussion but he would like it to be near the team complex in Tampa rather than in Buffalo, N.Y., where the U.S. investigation is being conducted. He expects to soon know the interview date. "The idea is to schedule something that allows me to cooperate and also get my work in," Rodriguez said Wednesday. "Obviously doing it here would be fantastic." Rodriguez would not indicate if he pressed his lawyers to lock in a date, but he said they have been working on it for "maybe a few days. I don't know." Kathleen Mehltretter, acting U.S. attorney for western New York, said it is not unusual for investigators to go to those they want to interview but declined to comment on the investigation. Maureen Dempsey, an FBI spokeswoman in Buffalo, would not comment on Rodriguez's statements, citing the investigation. Rodriguez lawyer James Sharp did not respond to several messages left by The Associated Press. On March 1, Rodriguez said he was aware federal agents wanted to talk to him about his relationship with Dr. Anthony Galea. The doctor told the AP on Monday that he helped the three-time MVP recover from a hip injury last year but prescribed only anti-inflammatories, not HGH. Rodriguez said he is not frustrated by the wait or questions from the media because the investigation is "not about me." Other baseball players, including Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran of the Mets, have been contacted by federal investigators regarding Galea. Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street has said federal investigators might want to talk to him about the case. Reyes and Beltran have said they did not receive HGH from Galea. Rodriguez has appeared more at ease this year than last spring, when he acknowledged using steroids from 2001-03. Dressed in workout gear Wednesday, he said his surgically repaired hip from a year ago was much better. "It just feels good to be back at work and have the freedom and flexibility to have a regular camp," he said. "There's no question I want to ramp things up a little bit and obviously work diligently more than anything down here, not overdo things." At some point this season, he will see his surgeon, Marc Philippon, and have X-rays, perhaps during the All-Star break or on a western road trip. During his rehabilitation, Rodriguez met Galea, who has close ties to chiropractor Mark Lindsay. Lindsay helped Philippon monitor A-Rod's recovery. Galea, who recently resigned as team doctor for the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, became the focus of authorities' attention last September when his assistant, Mary Anne Catalano, was stopped at the U.S. border in Buffalo. Galea was arrested in Canada last October on four charges relating to an unapproved substance used in healing therapy called Actovegin. He is known for using a technique, called platelet-rich plasma therapy, designed to speed recovery. He has used that to treat several high-profile athletes. U.S. federal court documents say "20 vials and 76 ampoules of unknown misbranded drugs including Nutropin (Human Growth Hormone - HGH) and foreign homeopathic drugs" were found in a car Catalano was driving. But Galea said Catalano could have had only a tiny, half-empty bottle - or one ampoule of HGH - because she was bringing the drug across the border for his use. The 51-year-old Galea says he's taken HGH, which is banned by the major sports, for a decade because it can improve the quality of life for people over 40. Even if he's cleared in the investigation, Rodriguez could be in violation of his record $275 million, 10-year contract because the Yankees have the right to approve doctors not on its medical staff. If Rodriguez was treated without club consent, any attempt to determine whether he violated his contract or baseball's collective bargaining agreement likely would hinge on whether treatment was elective or necessary. General manager Brian Cashman said the Yankees' "no comment still stands" while the federal investigation is proceeding. --- Associated Press Writers Carolyn Thompson in Buffalo, N.Y., and Rob Gillies in Toronto, contributed to this report. © 2010 The Associated Press.
