An official complaint filed with the Hamburg, NY police department claims Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch stole $20 from a police officer’s wife at a TGI Fridays.
The incident happen on Dec 7, however the woman delayed giving a statement to police until Jan. 6, according to investigators.
City of Buffalo police Sgt. William Crawford, the wife of the alleged victim, said his wife was eating dinner with a girlfriend when Lynch and an unnamed Buffalo Bills player approached the women.
The girlfriend left the table and as Molly Crawford pulled a $20 bill from her wallet, Lynch took the money from her hand.
From Bufffalo News:
“(Lynch) takes the $20 out of her hand, and my wife says “What are you doing?’ and Lynch says “Don’t worry.’ When my wife’s girlfriend came back to the table, she told her about it. The girlfriend approached Lynch and said, “Give my friend her money back,’ and Lynch threatened her saying “Do you know who I am? There’s going to be consequences.’
“At that point, my wife and her girlfriend left,” Crawford said.
Crawford said he filed the complaint the next day with Hamburg police, and about 10 days later, a letter with $20 arrived at their home from the police.”
Lynch is currently on three years’ probation for a misdemeanor gun possession charge in Los Angeles and, earlier this week, an Ontario woman began a negligence lawsuit against him for his highly publicized 2008 hit-and-run accident in downtown Buffalo.
It is being reported now that Mrs. Crawford has decided not to press charges on Lynch. But the point still remains, why would a millionaire NFL athlete risk prosecution over something so silly?
